If you're craving a space sim like I was, Elite is the best one out there. I bought and played Starpoint Gemini 2 before Elite was released, and Elite is the game that I wanted Starpoint to be. There aren't a whole lot of mods our there at the moment, but that's definitely a cool feature for any game to have.Īll in all, if you're looking for a great space sim that's the most like Freelancer, I'd go with Elite: Dangerous. Think, Spider-Man 2 from the old PS2 days.Ĥ) It has Steam Workshop built into it. I wouldn't call it current-gen, more like last-gen.ģ) Dynamic missions pop up near you, and you can choose to take them or not. Think of it as an updated version of Freelancer's engine. No where near the level of Elite or Star Citizen, but pretty good. The ship computer is pretty lame imho.ġ) You can roll your ship, unlike Freelancer!Ģ) The graphics are pretty good. This may not seem like much, but it really breaks immersion for me.Ĥ) If voice acting is a big thing for you, then you should know it is pretty bad in this game.
Freelancer on the other hand, had a much greater draw distance. If you're flying away from a space station, one minute it's there, the next * poof! * it's not. Also the draw distance is not far at all, so what ends up happening is that you get a lot of pop-in and reverse. For instance, multiple nebulae in one star system (wut?). Instead of fast and fun like an X-wing from Star Wars, your ships control like the Enterprise from Star Trek.ģ) In order to give the system a grander scale they have a lot of smoke screens. The main story will take you to Sol, but outside of that, you're only able to explore one system.Ģ) The flight controls are slow like EVE. Everyone says it's like Freelancer, and for the most part it is, but here are a few things that make me want my money back:ġ) It takes place in one, binary star system.
